The Witcher game series, initiated by CD Projekt RED in 2007, surpassed the popularity of the books that served as its inspiration and contributed to their publication in different regions worldwide. Nevertheless, author Andrzej Sapkowski has stated that his connection with the studio is not very intimate or active.
Sapkowski mentioned during the launch of the book Crossroads of the Crows, published in Brazil by Editora Martins Fontes, that he is not typically involved in consulting with the developer. Additionally, he has not provided any input towards the creation of the fourth installment in the series so far.

The author mentions that his relationship with The Witcher’s developer, although not close, has been positive and amicable. He expressed satisfaction with the current contracts with the game staff and hopes they remain favorable.
The writer of The Witcher filed a lawsuit against CD Projekt RED.
Sapkowski initially had doubts about the success of CD Projekt RED’s games and sold the rights to adapt his work for a low price. However, he later renegotiated for higher payments through a new royalties deal in 2019, showing a more assertive approach towards the studio.

The deterioration of the bond between the two groups can be attributed to the manner in which the games evolved from their original sources. They are all sequels to the author’s works and are viewed as unofficial extensions of those works.
The Witcher 4 has the potential to delve deeper into this aspect by delving into themes that Sapkowski himself has deemed insignificant for his written works, such as the categorization of witches into various schools. This concept originated from a mistake in revision that the author overlooked and deemed unimportant.

CD Projekt RED confirms that they will incorporate certain aspects of Crow Crossroads into their upcoming project, which features a younger Geralt embarking on his initial witch missions that shape his character.
