Animal Crossing has been confirmed as the winner for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 4K, with Nintendo announcing new content to be released on January 15, 2026.
The company had announced in 2021 that the 2.0 update would be the final significant update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but then reversed their decision.
Players will get two announcements: the 3.0 update, which is free, and a paid upgrade for a special edition on Nintendo Switch 2.

The islands will now allow up to 12 players at once, increasing social interactions and economic activities in the game, such as trading on Nookazon and selling turnips at high prices. This update utilizes the Switch 2 GameChat system.
Hotel Resort Growth
Update 3.0 brings a new hotel resort to the pier, run by Kapp’n and his family. Players will decorate the place to cater to various guests.
The Gram character comes back to exchange unique items for Hotel Tickets, the non-monetary currency of the new system.
Available items include furniture sets like Infantil, Retro, and Artistic, which can be acquired through coupons obtained by hosting visitors or fulfilling craft orders for Tom Nook.
Improvements in the quality of life
One highly anticipated update is the ability to mass-produce items, fulfilling a long-standing request from players since the game was first released.
The storage space will be increased gradually to accommodate 7,000 items initially and then to 9,000 items, which will now include trees, shrubs, and flowers.
The Resetti service now offers added functionality by enabling you to reset particular parts of the island, like certain areas or the entire island, which relocates items to your storage.
