CannonKeys recently introduced the Minimi40, a highly compact mechanical keyboard with a peripheral layout of only 40%. This design minimizes the number of keys to create a product less than 25cm long.
The Minimi40 stands out not just for its compact size, but also for its unique design featuring a lid. Inspired by Japanese bento boxes, its creators prioritized portability, including a closure strip and fabric bag.
The outcome is a keyboard that is compact, measuring 246.6 x 94.2 x 25mm, with a height of 43.8mm when the lid is attached. Additionally, the cover can function as wrist support, as illustrated in the screenshot below.
Minimi40 provides a choice for keys in ortholinear layout.
Interested individuals have the option to select the ortholinear layout for the keys on CannonKeys’ new keyboard, in addition to the traditional layout.
Bigger keyboards often have staggered keys for improved hand ergonomics while typing. On the other hand, compact keyboards may feature ortholinear designs to keep keys aligned as hand positioning differs.
The Minimi40 is produced using ABS and PBT injected plastic in both situations.
Mini keyboards are currently available for purchase, but they are not sold as a complete package.
The Minimi40 is designed specifically for the DIY market and does not come with switches, stabilizers, or keycaps. Users are responsible for providing these components themselves. The product includes a case, PCB, and the necessary connectors.

The wired keyboard is priced at $110 (R$591) on the official website, while the wireless version costs $125 (R$672). It is offered in black, white, green, lavender, and pink color options.
Minimi40 is currently available for sale through a “group purchase” approach, where a minimum number of orders is required to proceed with the purchases, or they will be canceled. Delivery is expected by the second quarter of the upcoming year.
