Overclocker TrashBench achieved a world record using an unconventional and cost-effective cooling method for the Intel Arc B580 GPU, surprising the tech community.

The vulnerability was demonstrated in a YouTube video by TrashBench, who detailed the process of using a mixture of glycol and car antifreeze pre-cooled in a freezer to circulate over the video card’s water block.

This new development joins other recent overclocking experiments, like the record-breaking overclocking of a Core i9-14900KF to an impressive 9.13 GHz, exceeding previous records and demonstrating the extent to which the hardware’s thermal limits can be pushed.

The system designed by TrashBench had limited features, including a custom 3D-printed support for the cooling block and connecting flexible tubes to an open cooler containing pre-cooled fluid. The lake pump maintained subzero temperatures by circulating the liquid.

The automotive antifreeze remained in liquid form until approximately -25 °C, enabling the safe operation of the GPU.
